n the nose, this tequila offers a sharp alcohol burn, with very slight notes of orange peel and Confectioners’ sugar detectable. On the palate, a big hit of sugar and a strong alcohol burn dominate, with no agave notes present. As the flavors recede, a bitter, astringent herbal note appears, before a grapefruit and cracked black pepper finish leaves a strong alcohol note at the end. While the Cuervo distillery has a long history and produces some excellent tequilas at higher levels, Cuervo Gold is a disappointment and can only be recommended for cocktails that mask the flavors of this spirit.
