Fine, elegant nose of cassis, cigar box, violets, wet earth, and sweet leather. Very polished, very smooth tannins, with a good core of blackcurrant on the palate, followed by earthy and woody notes. Agreeable, almost velvety mouthfeel. Quite traditionally made, with no obtrusiveness from the wood - reminds one of a well-made Chianti Classico. Very pleasant drinking, especially with food. Ready to drink now, I suspect this is at or near its peak.
